Interior Design Story
A Spanish inspired kitchen design for this residential apartment Brunswick West, with Industrial and Mid-Century Modern influences.
I designed my apartment in line with my own unique interior style. A combination of southern European influences, Industrial and Mid-Century Modern pieces. In a mostly monochrome colour scheme with a blue accent and hints of red and pink.
Wow factor is found in the bathroom which is adorned with a French toile style wallpaper in an ancient Greek myth motif. A highly personal choice given my cultural heritage. This and the pendant light distinguishes the bathroom.
The kitchen is inspired by Spain and Italy. The tiles on the facade are blue distressed. I chose a white cement look countertop to carry through the Industrial styling. What I love about Industrial styling and southern European influences is a distressed look.
For the sliding door I retrofitted horizontal bars to create the loft style windows we see in NYC warehouses. This is an important element to create a cohesive indoor/outdoor experience, given the view is mostly industrial.
Softening the masculine Industrial styling is linen sheer curtains, look closely and you’ll notice they’re hung from rods that resemble pipes. A French cafe style outdoor setting with a similar pattern to the hooks in the bathroom.
In the living room you will find a range of authentic vintage pieces. The black French vintage basin, the Mid-Century Modern magazine rack, the red Wendy Jones enamel pendant.
Notice the pattern on the solid oak dining table replicating the square tiles on the counter facade. With classic French bistro dining chairs in rattan for a textural element.
The pink colour on the back of the front door is inspired by my sabbatical in Barcelona where I was blown away by a front door with pink ornamentation and the crucifix is hand made by a dear friend.
The Spanish inspired kitchen design fuelled other interior design choices for a unique finish peppered with vintage finds.
