Interior Design Story
After many discussions and a lot of consideration my clients had decided to stay in the family home instead of downsizing. That’s the foundation of this Glen Iris renovation and the focus of the interior design solution.
Having been in their Glen Iris home for over 20 years there we many things they loved about the house.
Primarily, the natural light, size of rooms and the cross ventilation. However, there were some functional problems that needed to be addressed in this Glen Iris renovation.
Of course the aesthetics also needed an update. Overall the brief had the following key points; use of bright and happy colours, clean lines, not fussy with some interesting features and improved functionality.
In the kitchen I improved the functionality but adding an appliance counter to the space. Creating a kitchen island, changing the layout from a U shaped kitchen. Bringing the island closer to the stove and adding in more purposeful storage.
Improved functionality in the bathrooms included walk in showers, and greater privacy through frosted windows.
The aesthetics were updated with clean lines, focusing on bright and happy colours. With some traditional but Modern shaker style cabinetry in the kitchen made interesting with a floral patterned splashback.
Other key changes included an update in flooring. Removing the cork flooring and installing hybrid timber look flooring.
As well as changing the carpets throughout and adding window treatments for heat and light control.
Overall the renovation provided the client with improved functionality and an updated in aesthetics to ensure they are comfortable in this family home for another 20 plus years.
