Interior Design Story

For this interior design project in Glen Waverley,  the client bought her house off plan. So the interior fittings, fixtures and finishings were typically neutral for a Melbourne residential development. However, my client wanted to inject colour, pattern and dynamism into her home.

During the interior design brief stage of the process the client requested a mix of Modern and Contemporary pieces that sparked conversations. She wanted her guests to be in awe of the interesting design elements which were unique to each piece.

For example, the mixed material marble dining table with timber legs. The mixed materials and mixed colours of the dining chairs. Of course, the art is striking and a stunning point of interest to the dining zone. So the pieces that communicated function had to be striking but take a secondary role in this space.

Moving into the living zone there is a balanced mix of masculine and feminine. Where the sofa is tan leather with black metal legs which is combined with feminine floral patterns and plush textures such as velvet.

Working with an average sized space the aim was to communicate luxury in a discerning way. Everything was chose with intention and attention to be generous but within reason so that the flow of movement wasn’t compromised.

We also made some changes to the kitchen by changing the wall cabinets from white to walnut and the splashback from glass to patterned tile. These two small changes complement the colour and pattern in the living zone and add interesting to what was previously a standard white kitchen.

Each of the bedrooms are unique based on design elements such as a feature coloured wall, coupled with timber panelling in the master bedroom. Art, colour and pattern feature in the bedrooms, applied differently to reflect the occupant.

Overall, this interior styling project for a residence in Glen Waverley aimed to reflect the client’s personal design story based on their love for colour and pattern.
